Nikki Pitt, Fragmented Peace, 2014.
Nikki Pitt’s Fragmented Peace manipulates elements of light, sound and video projection to capture the dynamic experiences exhibited in nature within an artificial environment. Utilizing pixelated images of beautiful scenery found in the natural world, Pitt directly incites viewer engagement. The room echoes with various sounds, building tension between the rise and fall of waves. This tension is reiterated by the dangling shards of broken mirror that create a hazardous boundary. Through an implementation of digital and material components, Pitt recalls positive and negative happenings of the natural world, while also encouraging a unique and subjective experience.
